Cartographic Records.

The central map file of the Bureau consists of four series of maps. The maps in the first two series, numbered by the Bureau from 1 to 13,799, contain information about Indians and Indian lands, 1800-1939. The third series consists of small-scale administrative maps, 1878-1941. The maps in the fourth series are the record set of published maps of Indian reservations, 1908-44. The map file of the Irrigation Division includes maps of Indian reservations relating to allotments, irrigation projects, cultivated area, canals and ditches, and classification, 1872-1943. The map file of the Forestry Branch consists of fire control maps relating to ranger and fireguard stations, lookout stations, and reserved lands, 1920-44. The Realty Branch map file contains township plats relating to land disposition within reservations, 1846-1937.

The Alaska Public Works Program was authorized during the 81st Congress through the Alaska Public Works Act, Public Law 264.
